Society for Georgia Archaeology Paper

Tom Whitley presented a paper at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Georgia Archaeology, in Rome, Georgia on October 18. Tom's paper is called, "Recent Investigations at 9CM471: a Late Prehistoric / Early Contact Period Occupation in Camden County." This paper summarizes the findings of recent investigations at a mid-sixteenth century village and burial mound in Camden County, Georgia.

65th Annual Southeastern Archaeological Conference Presentation

Brockington's Tom Whitley attended the SEAC conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, giving a paper titled, "Riverfront Village: A Multi-Component Mississippian and Contact Period Site on the Middle Savannah River." Brockington completed a project at the Riverfront Village site in North Augusta, South Carolina, which found a wide array of artifacts, including Native American artifacts. Brockington teamed with the History Workshop to produce history-rich outdoor panels along the North Augusta Greeneway, nearby the archaeological site.

Archaeology at McLeod Plantation

An article in the Post and Courier highlights Brockington's work at McLeod Plantation on James Island. Brockington archaeologists used ground penetrating radar to determine if any graves were present at the site. Any areas with the potential to contain graves will be preserved in place. These areas could contain information about the plantation’s slaves as well as later generations.

Advanced Section 106 Training
