Mr. Andrew Agha (M.A., University of South Carolina) has over eight years of field and lab experience in southeastern archaeology, mainly in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. His primary research is in historical archaeology, focusing on 18th century colonial settlements. He has served as a co-author and field director for survey and testing projects throughout South Carolina. After receiving a B.S. in Anthropology from the College of Charleston in 1998, Mr. Agha participated in several advanced field schools (Old Salem, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; the island of Cyprus) before returning to school in 2001. He was also employed during this time on numerous testing and data recovery projects for South Carolina State Parks, The Charleston Museum, and the South Carolina Institute of Anthropology and Archaeology. Mr. Agha’s thesis research dealt with how African slaves created their own landscapes and places within the plantation. Through the utilization of Political Ecology, Sensuous Geography, and historical records, he was able to show how slaves, like people worldwide today, used their five senses to organize space and create meaningful places, within the plantation. Mr. Agha also attempted to identify slave yards through artifact patterning in his search of slave landscape and place. Andrew currently serves as a project manager for Brockington and Associates, Inc., in Charleston, SC.
