Kentucky Museum and Heritage Alliance 2012 Annual Meeting

Dea Mozingo presented "Do Museums Need a Brand: Hospital Car or Locomotive" at the Kentucky Museum and Heritage Alliance 2012 Annual Meeting, held June 3 to 5 in Bowling Green Kentucky. Christy Prichard attended the conference as well, and the History Workshop was a sponsor of the event.

Jen Bouchard and Sharon Knobbe Speak at the O'Fallon Veterans Commission

Jen Bouchard and Sharon Knobbe attended the monthly meeting of the O'Fallon Veterans Commission. They provided the commission with an update to an earlier presentation from April 2011. Jen provided an overview of the VCP and its archaeological work, while Sharon provided a summary of the veterans' roles and the VCP's impact on our participants. Steve Wahle, a recent graduate of the program, finished out the presentation with his experience as a lab technician. Scott Butler Presents on War of 1812 at SGA

On May 19, 2011 Scott Butler presented Forgotten Invasion - Archaeological Excavations at Point Peter at the Society for Georgia Archaeology's Spring Meeting. The research was based on a Brockington field excavation of a fort associated with the War of 1812. This semiannual meeting was associated with Georgia Archaeology month's emphasis on the War of 1812.

Southeastern Conference on Historic Sites Archaeology

Josh Fletcher will be presenting a poster, A Monumental Legacy - Documenting South Carolina's Inland Rice Fields By: Joshua N. Fletcher, Charles F. Philips, Carol J. Poplin, and John Cason at the upcoming Inaugural Southeastern Conference on Historic Sites Archaeology on August 24 and 25, 2012. The poster explores work done at the Palmetto Commerce Parkway rice fields and other area rice fields, the important role archaeology plays in generating and preserving information about African American history that may not be available through documentary resources, and ways researchers can share this knowledge with the public. ESRI Southeast Users Conference

Gitisha Goel attended the 2012 ESRI Southeast Users conference, from April 30 to May 2, 2012. The conference focused on ArcGIS 10.1 tools and features as well as LiDar data and new features in GIS. Attendees were from state and local governments as well as private firms. They shared their latest research into new methodologies and technologies.

Georgia State Preservation Conference

The Georgia State Preservation Conference was held in Roswell, Georgia this week from April 19 to 22 and Brockington's Callie McLean and Cameron Sexton were in attendance. This conference focused on issues relating to sustainability, economic development, archaeology, African American resources, researching historic properties, historic schools, and preservation planning.

Society for American Archaeology Annual Meeting

Paul Brockington, Scott Butler, Tom Whitley and Ralph Bailey attended the Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology in Memphis, Tennessee, from April 18-22, 2012. They staffed a Brockington booth and engaged with other archaeologists from around the country while learning about the latest in research and technology from around the country.
